George S. Cowan has taught and worked in the area of software
engineering, industrial simulation, and machine learning for over 30 years.
He recently retired from a position as Senior Principal Scientist at Pfizer
Global Research and Development, where he developed programs that learned to predict the biological activity of proposed new compounds. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Wayne State University, where his program of study was Knowledge-Based Software Engineering, and an M.S. in Operations Research from Illinois Institute of Technology. LLC, a health care management consulting practice specializing in business
strategy for health care and other non-profit organizations. Immediately
prior, he was Chief Planning Officer for Saint Joseph Mercy Health System
in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Experience includes six years as a health care
strategy consultant with top-tier national firms, followed by over 20
years senior-level experience with leading hospitals and hospital systems
in various markets across the U.S. He holds an MBA in marketing from Northwestern
University's Kellogg School of Management, an M.S. in health planning
from UCLA, and a B.S. in marketing from the University of Illinois. He
